It may seem like you redesigned your website recently, but time flies fast. 3-4 years go by fast and this can also be seen on your website. When redesigning a website, it is not just about a new look. The purpose of the website is to attract and persuade your customers to purchase services or products from you. The key question is whether the website is still attractive and adequate for your customers and clients.

If there are errors on your website, it works slowly, is cluttered or does not contain current information, the site traffic can drop. So how do you know your website needs a redesign?

  • The design or content is no longer relevant – Did you change business or focused on another group of customers? Make sure your website reflects this change!

  • Your site is slow, unresponsive, not intuitive, some links no longer work – Be careful, because these factors affect not only customers but also Google. Google can detect distractions on your website, so you won’t be among the first results in search engines, and you’ll lose customers as a result.

  • Does your competition have a redesigned website? Website trends and innovations change every year. You need to be one step ahead of the competition, or at least at the same point.

  • You can’t add content yourself or need a more flexible website.

  • The website is cluttered and inefficient. Users leave disappointed or call you more frequently because they just can’t find the information they are looking for.

  • Webpage not designed for mobile devices and tablets.

Determine what you want to keep and what to change

So how do you know what to keep and what needs to be redesigned or changed?

  • What are your most successful and visited content on the website?
  • What has brought you the most customers and clients recently?
  • What is specific to your business and attracts exactly that group of visitors you want to gain as customers?
  • What types of content did your competition choose to keep and which ones did they get rid off?
  • Does a visitor need just a few seconds on your site to recognize what you do? If not, what is a distracting factor? Are the images and texts relevant?

Why is it important to keep an eye on the competition?

We are aware you want to express your uniqueness and be focused on the market. However, it is also wise to check what your competition is doing. Everyone that does business in the same field as you eventually has to face similar problems and issues. So why not use their knowledge to your advantage and avoid the mistakes they made? Keep an eye on the competition and implement their strategies that work for you. While still maintaining your uniqueness and creativity, of course.

What to pay special attention to when redesigning a website?

It is necessary to pay attention not only to attractive look and relevant data and content, but also to yours URL link. Your old website already had a position on Google and probably some outbound links on other sites – maybe you posted an article, registered on portals, or hired someone for offsite optimization.

It is very important to keep an eye on these links and make sure not to change the URLs of individual pages. You can lose your current position on Google this way. So, make sure that the URLs of the old website will be the same on the new one. Or make URL redirects to the new one.
